Full Design Services – Architect of Record
This modern house in a small North Carolina college town is a striking example of sustainable architecture. The home is perched on a sloping landscape, designed with the utmost environmental consideration. The house has a minimal footprint, preserving the integrity of the surrounding forest. Instead of walls, it is supported by columns, reducing its environmental impact only disturbing the land enough to insert column footings. No grading of the land or removal of any trees. The property is on the top of a hill in the city next to the public library with city water and sewer. The entire downtown is accessible by walking,
The house is environmentally conscious and forward-thinking in its energy use. Solar panels on the roof harness the sun's power, helping the residents achieve sustainable energy levels and actively contribute to the fight against climate change.
Inside, the house has two levels. The Lower Level offers a private and serene space with bedrooms and captivating views of the natural surroundings. The Main Level is entered across a bridge from the street into a spacious and open social area with large windows with a full view of downtown, making it an ideal place for gatherings and entertaining. Adjacent to the main house, a guest suite is designed in harmony with the main structure and provides visitors with a comfortable and private space, ensuring a pleasant stay.
